Leadership Succession Plans

Does your company have a formalized leadership succession plan ? If you don’t – you should give some serious consideration to putting one together.

The primary reasons you should formalize a succession plan for your key leadership positions are;

*  you are able to prepare individuals for growth and advancement … without knowing where you are targeting your leaders to be how do you know if their individual development plans are on track ?

*  you are able to achieve continuity in strategic and operational objectives … an outside leader can destroy your culture while installing their new objectives which you’ve worked hard at implementing for the past few years. Of course I’m assuming the path you were on is the correct path. Promoting from within and having leadership continuity is crucial to your momentum.

*  you position the company for anticipated changes … you are ready for any changes because you’ve planned for them.

*  you position the company for unexpected changes … again you are ready for any changes because you’ve planned for them.

Leadership succession plans are not difficult to formalize and I encourage you to take succession planning deep into your organization … for the same reasons given above.
